Our Approach To Teaching Pickleball
Learning a new sport can be daunting and enough to put many people off. Because of the nature of pickleball, and the fact the majority of players are beginners, everyone is in the same boat. You will swing and miss the ball many times over and so will everyone else and when you do miss shots that is when the laughter begins. This we can guarantee.
At the Gold Coast Pickleball Academy (formally Gold Coast North Pickleball) we will teach you how to play pickleball in a supportive environment. We are very patient teachers!
We currently play on eight courts at Discovery Park Tennis Centre. The perfect location for people who live in the Hope Island area, Sanctuary Cove, Helensvale, Paradise Point, Biggera Waters, Oxenford, Upper Coomera, Pimpama, Parkwood, Ashmore and Southport. We segregate our beginners and advanced players, until our beginners have developed enough skills to play with the intermediate players. We nurture our beginners and build their confidence.
Let us introduce ourselves… Mr and Mrs Pickles 🤣 – a.k.a Gayle and Colin Wilson!
From the first time we picked up a paddle and hit that yellow ball we both were hooked. For years we were looking for ‘something’ on the Gold Coast. We wanted to be active and meet people and it needed to be low cost. Tough call when we wanted to play pickleball multiple times a week. We found a community tennis court, found a sponsor for our paddles and balls being Halcyon Greens Pimpama and started Gold Coast North Pickleball. Numbers increased so we forked out ourselves and bought three nets so triple the amount of people could play with us. We now own seven nets!
Because of our passion for pickleball we now share it others and conduct 6 sessions a week. Gayle became an International Federation of Pickleball World Ambassador where her role is to introduce pickleball to as many people as possible. Gayle has completed the Introductory Instructor Training Program from Pickleball Coaching International and has a developed a comprehensive learn to play pickleball program. As at November 2020, we both have introduced pickleball to almost 300 people; the majority had never heard of pickleball!

If over 3 million people play pickleball in the USA, it is obvious there is something special about this sport. We know it, we just have to convince others to do the same. So please, leave your comfy couch and give pickleball a try soon. You will wish you started sooner!
